A welcoming community can make all the difference when moving abroad. According to the Expat Insider 2025 survey by InterNations, expatriates around the world identified the countries where newcomers feel most accepted, where making friends is easiest, and where local people are especially welcoming.

The rankings highlight a diverse group of nations across Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Topping the list is Indonesia, which earned recognition as the friendliest country in the world for expats in 2025. Expats praised the country's warm hospitality, strong sense of community, and welcoming attitude toward foreigners. From bustling cities to island destinations, newcomers often report feeling at home quickly.

In second place is Colombia, whose reputation for warmth and friendliness continues to attract expatriates and travelers alike. Survey respondents highlighted the openness of local communities and the ease of building social connections.

Mexico ranks third, with expats appreciating its relaxed culture, welcoming atmosphere, and ability to help newcomers integrate into daily life.

The Philippines takes fourth place, reflecting the country's long-standing reputation for hospitality. Many expatriates cite the friendliness of Filipinos, strong English-language skills, and willingness to help visitors as key reasons for feeling comfortable in the country.

Brazil follows in fifth place, with expats frequently praising the sociable nature of Brazilians and their openness toward foreigners.

Panama ranks sixth, benefiting from its growing international community and welcoming environment. Oman is seventh, standing out as the highest-ranked Middle Eastern country on the list. Expats report feeling respected and welcomed while also appreciating the country's unique blend of tradition and modernity.

Thailand comes in eighth place, continuing its reputation as one of Southeast Asia's most hospitable destinations. Kenya ranks ninth and is the only African nation in the top ten. Expats highlighted the friendliness of local people and the ease of making social connections.

Vietnam rounds out the top ten, with newcomers praising both the hospitality of residents and the country's growing appeal as an expat destination.

The rankings demonstrate that friendliness remains one of the most important factors shaping expatriate experiences. While economic opportunities and quality of life matter, the ability to feel welcomed and build meaningful relationships often determines whether a new country truly feels like home.
