Public opinion toward Israel varies considerably around the world. According to the Pew Research Center’s Spring 2026 Global Attitudes Survey, large majorities of adults in many countries expressed an unfavorable opinion of Israel.

The survey was conducted from February 8 to May 13, 2026, across 36 countries, with most interviews taking place after the United States and Israel launched a military campaign in Iran on February 28.

Among the countries in the survey, Turkey recorded the highest share of unfavorable views, at 97%. This was followed by Pakistan, where 95% of respondents expressed an unfavorable opinion.

Malaysia ranked next at 89%, while Indonesia recorded 86%. These figures indicate that negative views were particularly widespread in several Muslim-majority countries surveyed by Pew Research Center.

In East Asia and the Pacific, Japan recorded an unfavorable rating of 83%, while Australia and Bangladesh each recorded 79%. Singapore followed with 72%, and South Korea recorded 70%. The figures show that unfavorable views were also widespread among several countries outside the Middle East and South Asia.

European countries also appeared prominently. Sweden and Spain each recorded 78% unfavorable views, followed by the Netherlands at 76%, Italy at 75%, and Germany at 73%. Poland recorded 70%. Pew reported that people in all European countries included in the survey gave relatively negative assessments of Israel.

The 2026 findings also show that opinions have changed in several countries compared with the previous year. For example, unfavorable views increased by 10 percentage points in South Korea, 9 points in Italy and Germany, 8 points in Poland, and 6 points in Indonesia. Turkey's unfavorable rating increased from 93% in 2025 to 97% in 2026.

Overall, the survey demonstrates that unfavorable views of Israel were widespread in 2026. Across all 36 countries surveyed, a median of 67% of adults expressed an unfavorable opinion, compared with 25% who expressed a favorable opinion.

These results describe public sentiment among surveyed populations and should not be interpreted as direct measures of the official foreign policies or positions of the governments of these countries.
