Airlines That Don't Serve Any Alcohol without Exemption
Don't expect any alcohol if you're flying with these airlines.
While drinks containing alcohol appear frequently on numerous long-haul services, a number of carriers worldwide enforce complete bans on alcoholic beverages aboard their planes. Commonly known as “dry airlines,” these operators refrain from offering alcohol due to religious, cultural, or legal considerations.
The majority originate in nations with predominantly Muslim populations, where Islamic teachings discourage or forbid the consumption of alcohol. Even without alcoholic options, these carriers deliver excellent service, certified halal meals, and pleasant journeys to millions of travelers annually.
One of the most prominent examples is Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s flag carrier. It maintains a total prohibition on alcohol across every domestic and international route, consistent with the country’s laws and religious standards.
Kuwait Airways likewise withholds alcohol service and additionally prevents passengers from bringing such beverages onto the aircraft.
Iranian airlines, including Iran Air and Mahan Air, also fly without alcohol. Iranian legislation bans alcohol, so these carriers adhere strictly to national rules.
Royal Brunei Airlines stands out as another well-known dry carrier that serves no alcohol on any of its flights. In certain cases, non-Muslim travelers may be permitted to carry limited personal quantities, subject to applicable rules and approval from the cabin crew.
Additional operators that maintain alcohol-free policies are EgyptAir, Air Arabia, Iraqi Airways, and the Kuwaiti low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways. These airlines prioritize family-oriented atmospheres and culturally suitable amenities for their guests.
In South Asia, Pakistan International Airlines applies a comparable rule by prohibiting both the service and consumption of alcohol in flight. Biman Bangladesh Airways similarly declines to offer alcoholic drinks on its services.
Although some passengers link air travel with wine or mixed drinks, many others value alcohol-free environments for religious, personal, or wellness motives. These carriers typically highlight hospitality through high-quality soft drinks, traditional non-alcoholic options, and carefully prepared halal food instead.
Their continued success shows that outstanding air travel does not require the presence of alcohol. With global passenger numbers still rising, dry airlines form a significant segment of the worldwide aviation sector by delivering experiences that respect the convictions and preferences of a broad range of travelers.
