ASEAN countries with the most Indians

Indian communities are deeply rooted across Southeast Asia, shaped by centuries of migration, trade, and labor movement. Malaysia ranks first in ASEAN, hosting approximately 2.91 million Indians, making it the largest Indian diaspora in the region. Indians in Malaysia play a significant role in sectors such as manufacturing, services, healthcare, and business, and are an integral part of the country’s multicultural identity.

In second place is Myanmar, with around 2.00 million Indians. The Indian presence in Myanmar dates back to the British colonial period, when large numbers of Indians migrated for administrative, commercial, and labor opportunities. Despite political and economic challenges over the decades, the Indian community remains one of the country’s largest minority groups.

Third is Singapore, home to about 650,000 Indians. In Singapore, Indians form a key pillar of the nation’s diverse society, contributing strongly to finance, technology, education, and public service. Together, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Singapore account for the vast majority of Indians living in ASEAN, highlighting Southeast Asia’s long-standing historical and economic connections with India.
