Asia continues to be one of the world's leading tourism regions, with several countries generating enormous economic value from travel and tourism.
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and its Economic Impact Research (EIR) 2025–2026, the tourism sector remains a major contributor to national economies, supporting millions of jobs, attracting investment, and stimulating infrastructure development.
China ranks first in Asia by a wide margin, with its travel and tourism sector contributing an impressive US$1.8 trillion to the national economy in 2025. The country's strong domestic travel market, expanding international tourism, improved transportation networks, and relaxed visa policies have helped reinforce its position as Asia's tourism powerhouse.
Japan follows in second place with US$325 billion, benefiting from record international arrivals, world-class transportation, cultural heritage, and renowned hospitality. India ranks third with US$268 billion, driven by its diverse cultural attractions, religious tourism, growing domestic travel market, and expanding aviation sector.
In the Middle East, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a major tourism destination, generating US$119 billion through ambitious investments in tourism infrastructure, entertainment, and heritage projects. The Philippines ranks fifth with US$91.8 billion, supported by its beautiful islands, beaches, marine tourism, and rising international visitor numbers.
Malaysia occupies sixth place with US$72.6 billion, while Indonesia follows closely with US$71.7 billion. Both countries continue to attract visitors through tropical destinations, ecotourism, cultural experiences, and government initiatives promoting sustainable tourism.
South Korea ranks eighth, contributing US$69.6 billion, thanks to its blend of modern cities, historical sites, entertainment industry, and growing popularity of Korean culture worldwide.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) generated US$68.5 billion, reflecting the country's success in luxury tourism, international events, business travel, and world-famous attractions such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Thailand rounds out the top ten with US$67.3 billion, remaining one of Asia's most popular destinations due to its beaches, cuisine, cultural landmarks, and vibrant hospitality industry.
These figures highlight the growing importance of tourism as a pillar of economic development across Asia. As international travel continues to recover and domestic tourism remains strong, these ten countries are expected to play a leading role in shaping the future of the global travel industry.
The WTTC projects continued growth for the sector as investments, innovation, and sustainable tourism practices strengthen the industry's long-term resilience.
