Asia’s Fastest-Rising Travel Destinations in 2025
Vietnam's Sa Pa showed the best improvement with a 15-place jump.
Asia continues to provide travelers with an extraordinary range of experiences, spanning bustling urban centers, peaceful countryside, and breathtaking mountain escapes. According to Agoda, the region’s fastest-growing destinations in 2025 are those that made the largest gains in international booking rankings compared with the previous year.
These emerging destinations are drawing more international visitors with a combination of distinctive attractions, cultural traditions, natural scenery, and increasingly developed tourism facilities.
At the top of the list is Sa Pa, Vietnam, which recorded the strongest improvement among the region’s emerging destinations. The scenic mountain town rose from 66th place in 2024 to 51st in 2025, marking a significant 15-place jump.
Located in the Hoàng Liên Son Mountains, Sa Pa is widely recognized for its dramatic rice terraces, refreshing highland climate, and diverse ethnic communities. Better transportation connections, combined with growing recognition among international travelers, have helped establish Sa Pa as one of Vietnam’s increasingly popular tourist destinations.
Coming in second is Okayama, Japan, which moved up from 97th to 84th place, climbing 13 spots. Known as the “Land of Sunshine” due to its relatively pleasant weather, Okayama is home to attractions including Korakuen Garden and Okayama Castle. It also provides convenient access to the renowned art destination of Naoshima.
The area is gaining attention from travelers looking beyond Japan’s busiest and most heavily visited tourist destinations.
Indonesia’s Bandung takes third place after rising from 94th to 83rd, representing an 11-position improvement. Situated in the highlands of West Java, Bandung has traditionally been a favorite among Indonesian tourists because of its cooler temperatures, diverse food offerings, shopping destinations, and volcanic scenery in the surrounding region.
Its growing popularity among overseas visitors demonstrates Bandung’s increasing potential as a destination centered on culture, lifestyle, and local experiences.
The remaining two spots on the list go to cities in Japan. Matsuyama climbed from 78th to 69th place, while Takamatsu advanced from 81st to 72nd. Both destinations recorded nine-position increases.
Matsuyama is particularly famous for Dogo Onsen, considered one of Japan’s oldest hot spring resorts, along with the historic Matsuyama Castle. The city offers visitors a combination of traditional Japanese culture, historic architecture, and relaxing hot spring experiences.
Takamatsu, meanwhile, is situated on Shikoku Island and is known for the picturesque Ritsurin Garden, its famous Sanuki udon noodles, and its convenient location for exploring the art islands scattered across the Seto Inland Sea.
Together, these five destinations demonstrate how travel preferences in Asia are evolving. International tourists are increasingly looking beyond major cities and famous landmarks, showing greater interest in authentic cultural experiences, beautiful natural environments, and destinations that offer a more relaxed atmosphere.
Agoda’s 2025 rankings indicate that destinations with a strong local character and better accessibility are gaining momentum among international travelers. The trend points toward a broader shift in Asian tourism, with visitors increasingly searching for varied, authentic, and more meaningful experiences beyond the region’s traditional tourist hubs.
