Countries with the Highest National Pride
Indonesians are the most proud of their country, followed by Indians.
National pride remains a powerful feeling that connects people to their history, culture, communities and national identity. According to figures from Pew Research Center’s 2025 research, some countries stand out for having exceptionally high levels of national pride.
The countries highlighted include Indonesia, India, Argentina, Sweden, Turkey, Japan, Germany, Canada, Poland and South Korea.
Indonesia ranks first, with 98% of people expressing pride in their country. This strong sense of national identity may be connected to Indonesia’s remarkable cultural diversity.
The country is home to hundreds of ethnic groups, languages and traditions, and Pew’s research found that Indonesians frequently mention diversity and multiculturalism as important sources of pride. Many also express pride in the Indonesian people and their ability to live together in harmony.
India follows closely at 97%. Indian national pride is associated with the country’s long history, cultural traditions, democracy, development and achievements. The enormous diversity of India, from its languages and religions to its festivals and regional cultures, also contributes to a strong sense of national identity.
Argentina and Sweden both record 94%, placing them among the countries with the highest levels of pride. In Argentina, people particularly emphasize the warmth, solidarity and supportive nature of their fellow citizens, as well as their arts and culture.
Sweden, meanwhile, is often associated with pride in its political system, equality, education, public services and quality of life.
Turkey, at 93%, and Japan, at 92%, also show very strong national pride. Turkey's pride is connected to its history, culture and national identity, while Japan's is reflected in its history, traditions and international reputation.
The list continues with Germany and Canada at 87%, Poland at 86%, and South Korea at 85%. These figures demonstrate that national pride is not limited to one region or culture. Instead, people can feel proud for many different reasons, including their country's history, people, culture, political institutions, achievements and way of life.
Overall, the figures illustrate how strongly national identity continues to matter around the world. Although every country has its own challenges, people often find meaningful reasons to appreciate where they come from.
From Indonesia's diversity to Argentina's solidarity and Germany's political institutions, national pride can take many different forms while serving as an important source of connection and belonging.
