Education remains one of the most important investments for sustainable development, economic growth, and social progress.

Across Southeast Asia, governments continue to allocate substantial resources to strengthen their education systems, improve learning quality, and prepare future generations for an increasingly competitive global economy. The 2026 education budgets demonstrate the different priorities and financial capacities of countries in the region.

Indonesia leads Southeast Asia with the largest education budget of US$47.18 billion. As the region’s most populous nation, Indonesia continues to dedicate significant funding to support millions of students, enhance school infrastructure, improve teacher quality, and expand access to education across its vast archipelago.

Vietnam follows with an education budget of US$24.75 billion, highlighting its strong emphasis on human capital development. The country has consistently invested in education to support economic modernization and technological advancement.

Close behind is the Philippines, which has allocated US$23.00 billion for education in 2026. The budget is expected to support classroom construction, teacher development, digital learning initiatives, and expanded educational opportunities for students nationwide.

Malaysia has set aside US$17.60 billion for education, reinforcing its efforts to improve educational quality, strengthen technical and vocational training, and prepare graduates for the demands of the modern economy.

Meanwhile, Singapore, despite its relatively small population, has allocated US$11.31 billion. The country's investment reflects its continued focus on maintaining a world-class education system that emphasizes innovation, research, and lifelong learning.

Thailand has earmarked US$9.73 billion for education in 2026. The funding is expected to support curriculum improvements, educational technology, and equal access to quality education across urban and rural communities.

Cambodia, with an education budget of US$1.09 billion, continues to increase investment in expanding educational access, improving school facilities, and strengthening teacher capacity as part of its long-term development strategy.

Overall, the education budgets of these Southeast Asian countries illustrate a shared recognition of education as a cornerstone of national development. While budget sizes differ due to variations in population, economic capacity, and national priorities, each country is investing in building stronger education systems.

These allocations are expected to contribute to better learning outcomes, workforce readiness, and long-term economic competitiveness.

Continued investment in education will remain essential for fostering innovation, reducing inequality, and supporting sustainable growth throughout Southeast Asia. The figures presented are based on the 2026 budget amounts provided for each country.
