How Early Do Asians Wake Up?
Indonesians are the first to wake up in Asia.
When it comes to waking up in the morning, people across Asia have surprisingly different routines.
According to data from Sleep Cycle, a sleep-tracking app that analyzes users' sleeping habits, Indonesia ranks as the earliest-rising country among the listed Asian nations.
Indonesia is the only country in the list where the average wake-up time falls before 7:00 AM which is 6:55 AM. Early work schedules, school start times, and morning religious practices may all contribute to this pattern.
Following Indonesia is Japan, where people wake up at an average of 7:09 AM. Japan's reputation for punctuality and structured daily routines is reflected in its relatively early start to the day.
Thailand comes next at 7:24 AM, followed closely by the Philippines at 7:28 AM. In the Middle East, Qatar records an average wake-up time of 7:32 AM, while India follows at 7:36 AM.
These countries demonstrate that many people begin their day well before 8:00 AM, despite differences in climate, culture, and working hours.
South Korea and Singapore share the same average wake-up time of 7:38 AM. Both countries are known for their fast-paced lifestyles and demanding work or academic environments.
Meanwhile, Malaysia averages 7:41 AM, with China just one minute later at 7:42 AM. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) follows closely at 7:43 AM, suggesting a broadly similar morning schedule across much of the region.
At the other end of the ranking is Taiwan, where people wake up at an average of 7:56 AM, making it the latest among the countries listed.
Even so, the difference between Indonesia, the earliest, and Taiwan, the latest, is only about one hour, indicating that morning routines across Asia are relatively consistent overall.
The findings highlight how geography alone does not determine when people wake up. Instead, factors such as work culture, commuting times, education systems, lifestyle, and local customs all influence daily schedules.
While some nations start their day before sunrise, others allow for a slightly later morning without significant differences.
Overall, Sleep Cycle's data offers an interesting glimpse into everyday life across Asia, showing that although morning routines vary from country to country, most people begin their day between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, reflecting the region's generally early-rising culture.
