Most Powerful Naval Forces in Asia, 2024

According to the latest Global Naval Powers Ranking from the World Directory of Modern Military Warships (WDMMW), the Indonesian Navy has achieved a significant milestone in 2024. The rankings place the Indonesian Navy as the fourth strongest naval force globally and the second strongest in Asia, with a TrueValueRating (TvR) of 137.3.

The United States Navy leads the global rankings with a TvR of 323.9, followed by the People’s Liberation Army Navy of China at number two with a TvR of 319.8. The Russian Navy holds the third position with a TvR of 242.3.

The WDMMW’s annual rankings use a comprehensive formula that evaluates various factors to determine naval strength. This includes not only the quantity of warships and submarines but also the quality, modernization, logistical support, attack and defense capabilities, and operational experience of each navy. The TvR score reflects the overall combat effectiveness, inventory balance, and local shipyard capabilities of the naval forces.
