Southeast Asia's Airports with the Longest Runways

Southeast Asia is home to some of the world’s most important aviation hubs, connecting major cities across Asia with destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and beyond.

Among the region’s airports, several stand out for their exceptionally long runways, providing the infrastructure needed to accommodate large commercial aircraft and support long-haul international operations. Based on the ranking provided, five Southeast Asian airports have runways measuring at least 4,000 meters.

At the top of the list is Mandalay International Airport in Myanmar, with a runway measuring approximately 4,268 meters.

Located near Tada-U, about 35 kilometers south of Mandalay, the airport was designed with a particularly long runway capable of supporting large aircraft. Myanmar's official aeronautical information publication records the runway at 4,267 meters, while aviation databases commonly round the figure to 4,268 meters.

Second is Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Malaysia, whose longest runway measures 4,124 meters. As Malaysia's principal international gateway, KLIA plays a major role in connecting the country with destinations around the world. Its extensive runway infrastructure reflects its role as a major international aviation hub.

Third is Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam, Indonesia, which is listed in the ranking at approximately 4,040 meters. Official Indonesian aviation data currently gives the runway dimensions as 4,025 by 45 meters, making it one of the longest runways in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Singapore's Changi Airport comes next with 4,000-meter runways. Changi is one of the region's most important international aviation centers, and its runway system is designed to support extensive passenger and cargo operations. Singapore's Civil Aviation Authority confirms 4,000-meter dimensions for its major runways.

Completing the top five is Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, which has two 4,000-meter runways. As Bangkok's principal international airport, Suvarnabhumi serves as a major gateway between Thailand and the rest of the world.

These airports demonstrate the importance of large-scale aviation infrastructure in Southeast Asia. Long runways provide greater operational flexibility and can support the demands of wide-body aircraft, long-distance flights and heavy aircraft loads.

Together, Mandalay, Kuala Lumpur, Hang Nadim, Changi and Suvarnabhumi illustrate the region's growing importance in global aviation and international connectivity.
