Data science and artificial intelligence (AI) are among the fastest-growing fields in the world, driving innovation across technology, healthcare, finance, business, and many other industries.

For students who want to build careers in these areas, choosing a university with strong research, academic reputation, and connections to industry can be an important decision. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, several universities stand out as global leaders.

At the top of the ranking is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with an outstanding score of 98.0. MIT is followed by Stanford University, which scores 96.4. Both institutions are renowned for their research and innovation in computer science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Singapore has two universities in the top four. The National University of Singapore (NUS) ranks third with 96.2, while Nanyang Technological University (NTU) ranks fourth with 94.0. Their strong positions demonstrate Singapore's growing importance as a global center for technology and AI education.

The fifth position belongs to Carnegie Mellon University, with a score of 93.9. Known for its strength in computer science and AI, Carnegie Mellon is followed by the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Oxford, which are tied at 93.2.

These universities combine strong academic research with opportunities to work on advanced technologies and interdisciplinary projects.

The remaining universities in the top ten are Harvard University, scoring 92.8, University of Cambridge, with 91.4, and Tsinghua University, with 90.4.

Their inclusion highlights the truly international nature of leading data science and AI education, with universities from the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, and China represented in the top ten. QS notes that NUS is the highest-ranked university outside the United States in this year's subject ranking.

Overall, these rankings show that students interested in data science and AI have exceptional choices across several countries.

While rankings are useful for comparing institutions, students should also consider factors such as tuition costs, scholarships, curriculum, research opportunities, location, and career prospects. Nevertheless, the ten universities above represent some of the strongest academic environments in the world for studying the technologies shaping the future.
