Cleanliness is an important part of the airport experience, particularly for passengers spending hours navigating terminals, lounges, restaurants, security areas, and washrooms.

According to the 2026 World Airport Awards by Skytrax, several airports around the world have distinguished themselves for maintaining exceptionally high standards of cleanliness. The ranking of the world’s cleanest major airports is led by Tokyo Haneda, followed by Seoul Incheon and Singapore Changi.

Tokyo Haneda takes first place as the World’s Cleanest Airport 2026 in the major-airport category. Located close to central Tokyo, Haneda is renowned for its efficient operations and well-maintained passenger facilities. Its achievement reinforces Japan’s reputation for meticulous attention to cleanliness and service.

Seoul Incheon ranks second. South Korea’s principal international gateway is recognized for its modern facilities, efficient passenger services, and consistently high standards. It also ranks second overall among the world’s best airports in the 2026 awards.

Third place goes to Singapore Changi, one of the world’s most famous aviation hubs. Changi is widely recognized for its passenger experience and impressive facilities. In the broader 2026 awards, it was named the World’s Best Airport, making its appearance near the top of the cleanliness ranking particularly significant.

Tokyo Narita ranks fourth, followed by Hong Kong International Airport in fifth. Hong Kong is particularly notable for its airport washrooms: it was ranked first in the separate World’s Best Airport Washrooms 2026 category.

Sixth place belongs to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, followed by Kansai International Airport in seventh. Zurich Airport ranks eighth, while Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport takes ninth place. Hongqiao also received the distinction of being the cleanest airport in China.

Rounding out the top ten is Rome Fiumicino Airport, which was also named the cleanest airport in Europe.

The 2026 ranking highlights a strong Asian presence, with seven of the ten cleanest major airports located in Asia. Japan alone has three entries: Haneda, Narita, and Kansai. The results demonstrate how cleanliness, maintenance, and attention to passenger facilities have become important measures of airport quality.

Overall, these ten airports represent some of the highest standards in the global aviation industry. Their success shows that a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained terminal can make a significant difference to the passenger journey.
