Wellness travel is becoming an increasingly important part of the global tourism industry as travelers look for holidays that help them relax, recharge, and improve their physical and mental well-being.

According to BookRetreats.com’s State of Retreats 2026 Report, the fastest-growing retreat destinations are being identified through increases in year-on-year search interest on its platform. The Philippines leads the ranking, followed by Australia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, Vietnam, Romania, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, and Italy.

The Philippines takes first place, with retreat interest rising by an impressive 323%. Its tropical islands, beaches, natural landscapes, and growing selection of wellness retreats make it an increasingly attractive destination for people seeking relaxation and personal renewal.

Australia ranks second, with interest increasing 255%. Its combination of nature, outdoor activities, yoga, meditation, and coastal retreats gives visitors many opportunities to connect with themselves and their surroundings.

In third place is Hungary, where wellness travelers can discover thermal baths and traditional spa experiences alongside modern retreats. Search interest increased by 236%.

The Netherlands, ranking fourth with 159% growth, and Germany, in fifth place with 157%, demonstrate that European wellness travel is expanding beyond traditional resort destinations. Germany, in particular, has a long spa and therapeutic tradition that continues to influence modern wellness retreats.

Vietnam ranks sixth, with interest growing by 129%. Its combination of peaceful landscapes, cultural experiences, healthy cuisine, meditation, and yoga makes it appealing to travelers seeking a balanced retreat.

Romania follows with 94% growth, while Switzerland records 75%. Switzerland offers mountain scenery and a strong reputation for high-quality wellness experiences.

Sri Lanka ranks ninth, with retreat interest increasing by 58%, while Italy completes the top ten at 55%. Sri Lanka is particularly notable for its long Ayurvedic tradition, while Italy combines wellness experiences with beautiful landscapes, food, culture, and historic destinations.

Overall, the ranking shows that wellness tourism is becoming increasingly diverse. Travelers are looking beyond conventional spa resorts and are choosing destinations where nature, culture, movement, mindfulness, and relaxation can be combined.

From tropical islands in the Philippines to European thermal towns and Ayurvedic retreats in Sri Lanka, these ten destinations demonstrate the changing face of wellness travel in 2026.
