Global trade data for 2024 shows that the Netherlands stands firmly at the top of the world’s hot chocolate exports, accounting for 23.5% of global exports with a value of around US$813 million. The country’s strong position reflects Europe’s long-established cocoa processing industry and advanced food manufacturing ecosystem.
Following closely behind is Malaysia, ranking second with a 12.2% share worth US$422 million, while Germany takes third place with 10.5% or about US$364 million, confirming Europe and Asia as the key centers of hot chocolate production.
Malaysia’s strong performance highlights Southeast Asia’s growing role in the global cocoa and chocolate supply chain. Cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang play a critical role as manufacturing and export hubs, supported by efficient logistics and access to regional cocoa processing facilities.
Indonesia, ranking fourth globally with an 8.8% share valued at US$304 million, further reinforces the region’s influence, with cities like Jakarta and Surabaya acting as major gateways for chocolate-based exports.
Southeast Asia’s presence is strengthened even more by Singapore, which ranks seventh worldwide with exports valued at US$159 million. As a regional trade and logistics hub, Singapore connects producers to global markets through its ports and advanced supply chains.
Together, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore demonstrate how Southeast Asian cities are increasingly shaping the global hot chocolate market—moving beyond raw commodity exports toward higher-value processed products.
