What makes a city attractive to travelers? It can be a combination of global recognition, cultural experiences, memorable attractions, food, hospitality, and the overall impression visitors take home.

According to Yanolja Research’s 2026 Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index, these qualities have placed ten destinations among the world's most attractive tourism cities. The ranking covers cities around the globe and highlights the continuing appeal of major destinations in Asia, Europe, and North America.

New York takes the top spot, reflecting its extraordinary global visibility and strong appeal among international travelers.

From Times Square and Central Park to Broadway, museums, restaurants, and diverse neighborhoods, New York offers an enormous variety of experiences in a single destination. Its combination of entertainment, culture, business, and iconic landmarks helps explain its position at the top of the 2026 ranking.

Paris follows in second place. Known for its architecture, art, fashion, cuisine, and romantic atmosphere, the French capital remains one of the world's most recognizable tourism destinations. Its enduring cultural influence gives Paris an appeal that extends well beyond its famous landmarks.

Japan performs particularly strongly, with Osaka and Kyoto taking third and fourth places. Osaka is renowned for its energetic atmosphere, food culture, shopping, and friendly character, while Kyoto attracts visitors with its historic temples, traditional neighborhoods, gardens, and distinctive cultural heritage.

Seoul ranks fifth, combining South Korea's contemporary pop culture, fashion, technology, shopping, and cuisine with historic attractions such as palaces and traditional neighborhoods. London comes sixth, maintaining its status as a global cultural capital with world-class museums, theaters, historic landmarks, and an exceptionally diverse food scene.

Rome ranks seventh, offering travelers an extraordinary concentration of ancient history, Renaissance art, architecture, and Italian cuisine. Bangkok follows in eighth, standing out for its vibrant street life, temples, markets, nightlife, and celebrated culinary culture.

Okinawa takes ninth place, offering a different experience from Japan's major urban centers. Its tropical landscapes, beaches, distinctive Ryukyuan heritage, and relaxed atmosphere make it especially appealing to travelers seeking a combination of culture and nature.

Chicago completes the top ten, drawing visitors with its impressive architecture, museums, waterfront, music heritage, and renowned food scene.

Together, these ten destinations illustrate the diversity of modern tourism. From the skyscrapers of New York to the historic streets of Kyoto and Rome and the tropical beauty of Okinawa, the 2026 Yanolja Research ranking shows that these cities offer very different experiences while sharing one important quality: the ability to create memorable journeys.
