Military strength remains a key measure of national power, reflecting a country's ability to defend its interests, project influence, and respond to security challenges.

The Global Firepower Index (GFP) evaluates military capabilities using factors such as manpower, equipment, logistics, financial resources, geography, and technological capacity. In the ranking system, a lower score indicates a stronger military.

According to the Global Firepower Index 2026, the United States remains the world's strongest military power with a score of 0.0741.

Its position is supported by unmatched defense spending, advanced technology, global military presence, and extensive naval and air capabilities. The United States continues to maintain a significant advantage in force projection and strategic reach.

Russia ranks second with a score of 0.0791. Despite ongoing geopolitical challenges, Russia retains substantial military strength through its large armed forces, extensive missile systems, nuclear arsenal, and combat experience.

China follows closely in third place with a score of 0.0919. The country's rapid military modernization, growing naval fleet, and expanding technological capabilities have strengthened its position as a major global military power.

India ranks fourth with a score of 0.1346, benefiting from its large military personnel base, growing defense industry, and strategic importance in Asia. South Korea follows in fifth place with a score of 0.1642, reflecting its advanced military technology and readiness in response to regional security concerns.

Among European powers, France ranks sixth with 0.1798, followed by Japan at 0.1876 and the United Kingdom at 0.1881. These countries maintain highly professional armed forces equipped with advanced aircraft, naval assets, and sophisticated defense systems.

Turkey occupies ninth position with a score of 0.1975, supported by its strategic location and expanding domestic defense industry.

Italy completes the top ten with a score of 0.2211. Its military benefits from strong integration within NATO and a modern mix of air, naval, and ground forces.

Outside the top ten, Brazil ranks eleventh with 0.2374, making it the strongest military in Latin America. Germany follows in twelfth place with a score of 0.2463, supported by ongoing investments aimed at strengthening defense capabilities.

Indonesia ranks thirteenth globally with a score of 0.2582, making it one of the strongest military powers in Southeast Asia. As the world's largest archipelagic nation, Indonesia continues to modernize its armed forces and enhance maritime security capabilities.

These rankings highlight the evolving balance of military power in 2026, with both established and emerging powers investing heavily in defense modernization and strategic preparedness.
