Indonesians are gearing up for their upcoming presidential election on Feb. 14, with incumbent Joko “Jokowi” Widodo unable to seek a third term due to constitutional limitations. The three candidates vying for the position include Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, former Jakarta Gov. Anies Baswedan, and former Central Java Gov. Ganjar Pranowo. Prabowo, who has lost two previous elections, is currently leading the race, buoyed by support from the younger generation and his vice-presidential running mate, Gibran Rakabuming, who is Widodo’s son.
Anies is emerging as an alternative candidate, criticizing the perceived decline in democracy under Jokowi, while Ganjar focuses on improving basic services and education. With over 204 million eligible voters, if no candidate secures a majority, a runoff between the top two contenders will take place in June.
The question remains: Who will assume leadership of the world’s fourth-most-populous nation?
